Impacting Lives Through Discipleship
(Written by: Pastor Ron Brink)
Calvary Chapel Granjas, our first church plant, is in a very difficult, and sometimes dangerous, area to do ministry. Drugs are rampant within the community, and many areas are under the control of the drug cartel. Along with that, most of the people lack education and are among the poorest in Tijuana. Yet, the church has steadily grown through a focus on discipleship. One of the lives changed through the ministry is Victor.
Victor has lived in Granjas almost his entire life and, like many of the youth in Granjas, he started using drugs at the young age of 14. By the age of 18, his parents placed him in a rehab program for six months. He would continue in a cycle of going in and out rehab between the ages of 18 and 27, a total of four times, spending two whole years of his life in rehabs. During his second stint in rehab a visiting pastor shared the Gospel and led him in a salvation prayer but, unfortunately, he quickly returned to the drugs after leaving. The next two times in rehab he found himself in programs that were led by Christians and, thankfully, remembering that salvation prayer after his fourth time in rehab, he started attending Calvary Chapel Granjas. It was while attending Calvary Chapel Granjas that he was discipled for the first time. Soon, as he grew in his relationship with the Lord, the drug life became a thing of the past. He married his girlfriend, Ana, with whom he had a daughter, Ninive, who is now three years old. Ana, seeing the change in Victor’s life, also became a follower of Jesus and was baptized. Today, after three years in the church, Victor leads worship, is involved in missions, and helps in the deacon program. His wife, Ana, serves in the children’s ministry. Victor recently shared with Pastor Juan that the church’s ministry has enabled him to move on from his past life of drugs, equipping him to fulfill the purpose that God has for him in a way he could never have imagined. Victor and Ana’s prayer is that they would continue to walk each day in victory, provide for their family, and that God would use them both to help others see that there is power in the Gospel. <top>
Touch Baja Mission Team and Group Facilities
(Written by: Staff)
Touch Baja is now blessed to have two locations in Northern Baja to host mission teams and groups. One is our ranch in Carmen Serdan and the other is our larger facility in St. Fe Tijuana.
Carmen Serdan is located about halfway between Tecate and Ensenada, about 45 minutes of travel to either city. The community is very small, full of farms and ranches, with other larger communities close by. In Carmen Serdan, the horses, which are often used to go to one of two small grocery stores, probably outnumber people, and there are limited dining opportunities unless you drive 15 to 20 minutes to one of the surrounding communities. But, at this facility, we have a kitchen and dining area as well as open dorm sleeping.
The larger St. Fe facility overlooks Rosarito Beach, with quick access to both Rosarito and Tijuana. It has a kitchen, dining area, semi-private rooms, and shower and restroom facilities. We can accommodate teams or groups of about 30 individuals.
With a wide range of opportunities to reach out into the communities where we serve, or doing in-reach ministry to one of our many churches, we can work with you to plan your outreach. If you already have ministry connections, we will work to support you in any way we can.
The cost to stay at either facility is $20 per overnight stay, and meals are $6 per person. We are available to provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Contact us for your next mission trip. Working together we can make Him known! <top>
End Of Year Giving Opportunity
Jesus told us the workers were few and the harvest plentiful, and that we should pray to the Lord of the harvest to send workers. He then sent out those same disciples He was speaking to. It is still true today; there is a huge harvest just waiting to be gathered in. What is true about workers is equally true about financial resources. The Lord has provided so abundantly, and we are grateful, but it seems to always be a struggle.
We have seen so much fruit through our Youth Rehab ministry, both with the boys that have come to the Lord and continue to follow Him after they leave and the parents that we work to reach with the saving power of the Gospel. However, it is very expensive to operate due to the staff, food and housing (see photo – youth making creamed honey to offset ministry costs). Most of the boys come from families with very few resources and only pay a very modest amount of money and some are unable or willing to pay anything. The mother of one of the boys is a drug addict who’s only income comes from selling drugs. We continually do outreach to the parents but sometimes weeks will pass without us being able to find her.
Would you prayerfully consider a one-time year end, or possibly a continuing, gift to this ministry? You can do so by going HERE! Your financial gift will be used to produce eternal fruit for the glory of our Savior and change a young man’s life for eternity. <top>
A “Granddaughter” Is Birthed
(Written by: Staff)
I have heard a number of people say that if they knew how wonderful grandchildren were they would have skipped children and gone straight to grandchildren. I understand what they mean, grandchildren are an incredible blessing. I might have even said it once or twice.
Touch Baja first started the Xochimilco church then partnered with the church to start three more in Via Del Prado, St. Fe and Granjas, which we called daughter churches. It was really exciting when we partnered with St. Fe to start the church in Pueblos Magicos, which we called a granddaughter. St. Fe is a middle-class community with more resources, both in time and money, than the other churches. Still it was a huge step for them. The Granjas church is a short drive from St. Fe but in a whole different world. They are among the poorest financially in Tijuana, many lack education, and drug use and violence are everywhere. The church has struggled while St. Fe flourished. Just a few years ago it hit a new low when the violence exploded and members were murdered. People were afraid to go outside and then COVID hit. It didn’t look good for the church. After COVID, and with a decrease in violence, it slowly began to recover and now is flourishing with a focus on evangelism and discipleship.
It has grown to the point that Granjas has teamed up with Xochimilco to start a new church in Rosarito, in a community called Rosarito Real. It is difficult to express what a blessing this is to see Granjas get to this point. A second daughter giving us a granddaughter! Rosarito Real is in the the hills above Rosarito Beach. It’s not that far from Xochimilco as the crow flies but quite a bit further by car. There is only one very small Presbyterian church at the edge of the community with no outreach that we know of. We have started a home fellowship on Tuesdays and recently had a large Christmas outreach focusing on the children. We will soon have another outreach and will start discipling those that have decided to follow Jesus from both the outreaches. We are so excited about what the Lord has done, and looking forward to what He will be doing in the coming year. We will be sending church teams from the U.S. to help in reaching the people of Rosarito Real. Join us in praying for a lot more granddaughters and maybe some great grandchildren. <top>
Praises
- Eduardo finished his 9 months in the rehab and is doing great. He came back to visit for a few days. Most of the rehabilitation centers mistreat the people getting help and they never want to return. Diego will be returning to the rehab so he can attend church services on Wednesday.
- We had a children’s outreach at Rosarito Real. A couple of the boys from the rehab assisted. About a hundred children attended along with many of their parents. Quite a few people prayed to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior and we will begin to disciple them.
- Diego is doing much better and has returned home. He is praying about going to Bible school. <top>
Prayer Requests
- Please pray for the new church in Rosarito Real. That the Lord would give us wisdom and bring people to Himself in this community.
- We are just beginning to promote the new group facility in St Fe. Please pray that we will be able to find churches that would be blessed by this ministry and with a desire to reach Mexico for Jesus.
- Please pray for Eduardo’s brother, Jose, who entered the rehab when Eduardo left.
- Fabiola, who attends Calvary Chapel Granjas, has had far more than her share of tragedy. She lost her husband and two teenage sons to cartel violence and her house burned down after her neighbors house caught fire. Recently her daughter who was six months pregnant along with her husband were shot to death as they slept. Please pray that she would know that peace that passes understanding. <top>
